- Be or become an Einstein PTSA member for the current school year.
- Be or become LWSD background-check approved (Links open in new window)

Introduction to Python course

This is an introductory Python course using Synchronized Text-based and Block-based Coding. Using educational gamified platform, students will learn coding while playing an adventurous game. Our brave heroes are trying to save our world from enemies. With the Synchronized Text-based and Block-based coding system, students can switch between text and code blocks at any time. This way, students learn how to write real code and establish algorithms with the help of code blocks. By converting text-based code into blocks, students will be able to construct algorithms faster by visualizing the code when they write.

Concepts covered: Algorithm, Objects and Movements, Loop, Conditional Expressions if, Conditional Expressions if else, Conditional Expressions if elseif else, Boolean values, Arrays, Variables, For loop, Parameters, Repeat loop, While loop, Functions, Comparisons, Modules, Dictionaries, Debugging, Database etc.

Prerequisite: None

Game Making with Python

Embark on an exciting coding journey in this beginner to intermediate-level programming course! Students will use the Python programming language to craft their own adventure games. Through immersive gameplay, an epic story, and creative capstones, they'll not only have a blast but also master fundamental computer science concepts.

This course offers foundational computer science training using Python. The students will tackle over 50 coding challenges, honing their programming skills and problem-solving abilities. The course is structured into modules, each culminating in a shareable Capstone Project where students unleash their creativity to create their own games.

MODULE BREAKDOWN:
Module 1: Students dive into problem-solving, sequences, loops, syntax, and debugging techniques.
Module 2: Students tackle algorithms, debug logic errors, and explore variables and conditionals.
Module 3: Students delve into data types, loops, boolean methods, and nested conditionals.
Module 4: Students advance to compound conditionals, functions, data analysis, and working with different objects.

Prerequisite: This is for students that completed the winter Python sessions.

Challenge Island

If you believe that excessive use of digital devices has stifled imagination, focus, problem solving and communication skills in children. If you are looking for opportunities that motivate your kids to think and solve problems, rather than simply react to digital prompts on a screen. And if you want your kids to feel the joy of communicating with their peers by looking at each other's faces rather than speaking in emojis; and the sense of accomplishment that comes from inventing new solutions to STEAM challenges, welcome to Challenge Island (CI). Students will be working in groups with their classmates.
